mars volta were intense at the big day out. they arent supposed to be a band who plays all of their hit songs and stuff, they just jammed and improvised for about 60% of the time, it was the awesome.

mars volta play a progressive style of rock, and theyre mostly just a jam band, so theyre not there to get everyone jumping and they dont go "woo!" at every break in a song. i'd say theyre mostly in it for the self satisfaction of playing something that wont get popular, but they can still earn a living.

not naming names, but im so sick of people going "ugghh whinge i dont get mars volta theyre not good" if people had a knowledge of actual music and the skill it takes to do what theyre doing, you'd probably "get" them.

Thats a silly reason. Wats ur definition of good? Production? The music itself? The talents of the musicians?

Because if it is any of these, u should prolly try listening to them a bit more. The production is top notch, the music is like no other and sources from a number of musical styles (which is damn refreshing), and each musician is a master at what they do. For example, the guitars use heaps of fx and styles, and the vocals create an amazing mood for each song. The lyrics dont always make sense on one level, but the nature of how he combines words creates an amazing and powerful ambience and image.
Ive never seen a more energized band live either.

Mars Volta sucks in my opinion, musically talented? Fuck that, i don't give a shit if they are the most talented people to grace the earth.

I don't see how production and talent even factor into an opinion of music. Take RHCP, my lord have they got great production value in there cd's, literally pouring shit loads of $$$ into each one and flea on bass. Like i give a shit about that, they are booring and i don't like there music.

My opinion on a song or band is based on what the song or band sounds like, not how talented they are or how much money they have to spend on a recording.

If fat tony announces that he doesn't like them because he thinks there songs suck, thats a good enough fucken reason to not like them. Not a silly reason.
