im not a big fan of the mars volta but i hafta hand it to them, they know there stuff. perhaps the correct way of saying you dont like them is not "they are shit and i dont get why other ppl like them", but "that sort of music doesn't personally appeal to me, but i can see why other ppl might enjoy it"

i dont think anyone has a problem with someone not liking a band, its when they give vague, open ended reasons like "it's not good". it's not good based on what!? elaborate, simpleton.

Why should anyone have to elaborate, if they don't like it, that's it, why should it matter to you what their reasons are. It doesn't change the way you feel about the band, it doesn't change a thing, it may annoy you but don't fight like little schoolboys, just ignore it or something. Fat Tony never said you couldn't like them, he said HE didn't get why everyone does. It's a fair statement. Everyone should stop getting so picky about what people say, I thought I noticed a slight improvement in the bickering that goes on here but I guess I was wrong. And I know I'm contradicting myself in some ways even bothering to write this but that's what comes about when you are bored. And I don't care. So shhh

yeah they are musically talented, but that's not the most important thing. i like punk for that reason.

thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard. even if youre not a bass player, you can tell pretty ducking easily that he's up there with the victor wootens and jaco pastoriuses (pastorii?). fair enough, the chili's new stuff is dissapointing when compared to say, cblood sugar sex magik, same goes for the bass playing, but blood sugar sex magik is dissapointing in comparison to freaky styley and mother's milk.

and flea was also in the big lebowski and back to the future 3. two more oscars there.

i dont believe mars volta have anything to do with punk so i dont see how they can be compared to paying out pop punk for being mature, their music may be elaborate or mature but i dont think you can really use that argument, theres alot of mature music out there but this is a punk forum, what makes you think the people here should respect them just because they are mature.

I dont hate pop punk but i know people who hate it cos its "immature" or watever u want to call it, and they grace this forum regularly. Just read threads on this forum. And if Mars Volta had nothing to do with punk then why have a thread about them on a punk forum? And y bother having ur two cents of the argument if u only want to post about "punk" topics? Anyhow, I believe Mars Volta are just as "punk" as a lot of other "punk" bands out there. And if they r so fucking shit y r they so popular and respected?
Listen, of course u dont have to like Mars Volta, but at least give a better reason as to y u dont like them instead of "they r fucking shit". After all the thread is about Mars Volta, so if u r going to say u dislike them, its pretty logical that ud give a reason as to y.
And Nathan, I have read their interviews, and in my opinion they come across as far from pretentious.
