Currently on their third tour of the eastern states promoting the first single from the album "All Over Again" - Last Years Hero return to Perth to launch their debut album "Tell You When" with a huge weekend of shows in WA, joined by very special guests and Below Par labelmates - Something With Numbers (NSW) - who were last seen in the west ripping it up with Strung Out (US) in 2003. Also making the trek west will be the Below Par posse who are keen to check out WA's thriving music scene first hand.

so whats the deal with the globe changing its name to the monkey bar?....seems rather queer to me..has anything else changeed there or just the name?

The Globe complex has changed it's name to The Monkey Bar, that includes the Amplifier bar, which is now called The Bench.

They have done over the venues, and dress standards now apply, I think that only affects the night so most of you on here won't have to worry about that.

But basically it's shiny shoes, no shorts, and collared shirts, it's also rumoured that they are going to have a cover band playing every friday night.

Personally I think this is very fucked, and is definately a blow to local music.

if the purchaseurs knew anything about the venue they were getting into, theyd know the crowd. and theyd probably know that the crowd is mostly povo uni students, student gig crowds, and the occasional drunk business man.

As far as I know, it is the same management that has it now that has been running it in the past. I think they are trying to lift the monkey bar/bench and make it a more up market kinda place where trendy folk are going, it's a real kick in the teeth for the regulars who have been going there Friday and Saturday for the past few years or so.

There isn't many places left in Perth that don't have a dress code or that offer cheap drinks.

Like I said I know this applies to night, I'm not so sure about day. Early night gigs might be exempt from this, I really don't know, only way to find out is to ring them.

dress codes suck. Damn these places going upmarket... people from my dad's work were invited to the opening of the Monkey Bar, and he works for a rather large corporation, and he'd never even heard of The Globe. Obviously they're trying to attract all the damn yuppies. Gross.

The dress code issue is really suspect at the moment, more and more things keep emerging as time goes by. There's too many contradicting stories going around.

That it applies to The Monkey Bar and not The Bench.
Cover bands end at 12.00am and from then the rules are more lax.
The standards are in place because the regulars are 'scaring' off new punters.
As long as it's not too ripped/dirty it's ok.
Staff were over zealous when enforcing rules.

Really I think we just have to wait a couple of weeks and see.

More often than not there is a gig on somewhere else before 12 on a Friday night, I think that's the main reason that they are getting a cover band in there, cause they ain't making enough money from the regular who rock up after they've been at another gig. SO they figure they get an early crowd in pre-12 make money outta them, they leave when the band finishes, regulars come in post-12 we get their takings. After 12, it's a DJ any way, a la DENIM

I mean looking at it that way, it's not that bad of an idea, just means all EP launches will have to be on a Saturday night from now on. Or midweek.. but has The Amplifier ever done that? Might not have a license to.
