lets jsut face it. these days alot of "punk" is sounding very similer. (4xj, change of face, last years hero all and many others of these "punk bands") personally i dont like the music, u could almost say i despise it. BUT for all the people out there in there bands doing there things, good on you.

no offence "mickey flash" but your band sucks a fair bit too. its cool youre doing what you want with your music, keeping it true to old school and following in those footsteps, but your music sounds the same as that stuff so you cant criticise jack squat. plus to make it worse, all of your songs sound the same, which is pretty much all i can say about old school punk aswell. you might not notice it or want to, but its true.
understandably when you compare bands like last years hero and four times jimmy i can see your point, as all of thier songs sound the same, and they sound the same as the crap they want to perpetuate, but its an offence to say change of face sound the same. they have progressed so much from wanting to be strung out, now their stuff is real rocky and not much "punk" at all.
plus you have to consider bands like said girl, falling short, and saving rushmore, who are not necessarily original, but they add their own spin on things and they sound original and good for perth and even australia to be honest.
but on a different note, perth has the best music in australia. eastern states "punk" music is shit, shit bands are doing ten times better than excellent bands over here, so be proud of yourselves.

You 'Optimus Prime' are a prime example of an idiot. Everyone will start listening to glassjaw? OH GOD that is terrible, seeing as Glassjaw are a largely popular band already and on a major how would it make any difference at all. Its people like you that think they are somehow elite that puts what could be good kids off music.
You have a pretty funny stand point on Perth bands too apparently everything is shit apart from Said Girl, Change of Face, Saving Rushmore and Falling Short (your band?). And of course you stated all these bands put a spin on things to make them original, ummm yeah ok haha. All of those bands sound exactly like the bands they listen to at home which is exactly the same with LYH and Four Times Jimmy...there is no difference here no matter how much you try to justify it. Maybe their songs sound the same, but really mate all of the songs the bands you mentioned do also. Original bands in Perth? ahhhh....ill come back to that some other time.
Yeah Ballpoint were an awesome band and inspired alot of people, out of interest how many people here ever saw them? So they changed their style of music after some member changes, big deal, i know all of them and i can tell you they havent changed one bit. The members still listen to better music to you in their spare time and are doing what they want who cares. I dont listen to much pop punk but i heard the new record and its top notch too. In closing...NO LOVE FOR THE HATERS!

for starters, you missed my point entirely;
what the fuck man. all i tried to say is that four times jimmy and last years hero songs sound the same in comparison to bands like saving rushmore, said girl and falling short. change of face to a degree, but ive heard their new stuff is getting wierd. acknowledging that saving rushmore, said girl and falling short's songs are not original and sound alike, but to a lesser extent than ftj and lyh. and sound original and good for PERTH which produces a high class of music compared to the shit-they-do-after-eating-curry that comes out of the eastern states.
i never said i was elite, and i dont consider myself to be "punk" or any form of stranded sub-genre. Im happy playing the music i play. its not my favourite, but im playing music, so im stoked for that. if i had it my way falling short would be a funk disco band. but we cant have everything.

when have you heard us,.... look i love bands such as sham 69 dk sex pistols cockney rejects black flag and so fourth... but our band doesnt really sound like them.
we DO have a original sound of punk rock. far different then watever bands you said. do what you want with punk rock, but try to keep it a tad original.

you look cool onstage with the hairdos and the jeans and the chains and shit, coz kids can appeal to it, them trying to be "punk" and all, but your music is lacking in everything that classifies "good"
its all cool to say you're original, but youre far from it. you'd be original if you wore lettuce crispers on your head and played harpsicords and violins. your sound is emulated from things you idolise, i.e. the bands you rhymed off (an attempt to make people think you're "punk"?) the same as every other band in the world today. ill give you props purely because you're kids into the whole "old-school" movement and the dress code and shit. but your music is far from original.
and on the comment "try to keep punk rock original" or whatever, why does one necessarily have to keep punk rock original. why do bands that have mohawks and terrible clothes have to be "punk" why do kids with short trousers and pulled up socks get classified as punk? cant they just be kids that cant dress properly? it fucking shits me thats theres all this heirarchy in the mucis scene, esp. in the local scene. who gives two fucks if my bands mohawks arent as big as your band's. or if my guitar tone isnt as vintage and dirty (i.e. shit) sounding as yours? fuck it all i say.

"PUNKCLONES" is exactly what we all are! Theres no real originality but i dont care cos its still fun. You are conforming by not conforming, get me? Every 1 is the same as each other eg, pop punk, oldskool, hardcore. Some jsut think they are better than the other.  |
